Cons- Introduction

School Uniform Cons

A school uniform is when a male or female student is required to wear a specific type of clothing that the whole student body is required to wear. School uniforms have many positive outcomes and negative outcomes. Negative outcomes are that they go against the First amendment to the U.S. Constitution, violating kids freedom of expression, taking away kids creativity (Weekly Reader) and the most common con is Individuality (Articlesbase). A positive outcome is that they help kids from being embarrassed about not having enough money for expensive clothing, there is no gang identification and kids would not be judged by the clothing they wear, but by their character(Tiffani Knowles).Uniforms still allow a little individuality, as a girl stated “We try to play around with our uniforms so we can look a little different from other girls” (Regi Arriola) .Uniforms can be less expensive but then you need to buy clothing for outside school activities. Parents agree that buying uniforms is not less expensive than having a dress code free school (Weekly Reader). And, there are also problems with student discipline when students reject rules about uniforms. (Articlesbase) But, students are concentrating more on school work (ProQuest). Schools should not enforce the policy of school uniforms because it prevents individuality, causes disciple problems and the uniforms are a pricy cost.
